After releasing her highly-anticipated 13th studio album, Mary J. Blige has dropped a new video for the self-titled song “Strength of a Woman.”
While the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul” usually rocks her music video solo, except for dancers or male eye candy, she called on the cast of TNT’s new series Claws.
Focused on five manicurists (played by Niecy Nash, Carrie Preston, Jenn Lyon, Judy Reyes and Karrueche Tran) working at a Central Florida nail salon, Claws celebrates empowered women as they navigate their professional and intimate lives.
The video features clips from Claws, drawing a correlation between the show’s narrative and the emotions expressed by Blige.
“The inspiration for ‘Strength of a Woman’ came from my life. It came from some very heavy trials and hardships through my life that I had to come through,” said Mary J. Blige of the song. “There are a lot of similar themes in the show ‘Claws’. They’re in some heavy, sticky, nasty situations but that is what survival is about.“
