Singer Meshell Ndegeocello, known for songs like “If That’s Your Boyfriend” and “Fool of Me,” is currently searching for her mother, Helen Johnson. The 72-year-old has reportedly been missing for two weeks.
According to D.C.’s NBC affiliate, Johnson has dementia and went missing from her Prince George’s County home on April 10. Ndegeocello said that Johnson drove away from her home around 4 p.m. on that day, wearing a long denim skirt and light top, and hasn’t been seen since.
She was seen driving her gray 2004 Ford Taurus, which has a Maryland license plate with the number 4ALD25. The 72-year-old is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds.
On Monday, Ndegeocello updated people by saying that her mother’s car was ticketed at Dulles International Airport in Virginia, so she asked that everyone near that area keep an eye out for Johnson.
Ndegeocello has talked briefly about her in the past, stating that Johnson had an eighth-grade education and was a stay-at-home mother who was also pretty religious. This is clearly a very tough time for the singer and her family. It’s been especially tough as Ndegeocello has attempted to try and complete touring obligations while also trying to track down her mother.
Those who may have seen or have any information on Johnson’s whereabouts should call 301-749-5064, or message Ndegeocello at @officialmeshell on Instagram.
